Producer / Beat Maker / Kansas City
Breaks. Beats. Sample Flips.
Kansas City producer crafting beats from the ground up. From sample flips to original productions, Hydrofonix blends breakbeat, electronica, and hip-hop into something that hits different. A founding member of The Space Chimps and a solo artist from the start — building sounds in the studio, one MPC pad at a time.
Signal Chain
Pro-level signal path. The Neve 1073 + LA-2A is a classic vocal chain used on countless records.
Before the group, before the crew — Hydrofonix was already getting noticed. At 21 years old, Brandon Breckenridge landed a review in URB Magazine for his solo project Corrupted, hosted on fonixlabz.com — run off a friend's home computer.
"My first review back in 2003, URB Magazine. I was 21. Crazy how time flies!" — Hydrofonix
"This is a very slow site and the MP3s are all zipped, so getting to the latest stuff by 'electronic musics [sic] hard-edged rhythm pioneer' ain't exactly a cakewalk… Listed under the 'Nu-Breaks' tab, 'Corrupted' does a fair job of mixing standard breaks into an industrial-tinged jitter that owes as much to David Holmes and Fatboy Slim as it does to latter-day Jack Dangers. It's got bounce, edge and lots of gusto running with plenty of amok. There's promise here, a lot of it, but Hydrofonix's Brandon Breckenridge needs to find a faster server here so those stuck with dial-up can enjoy his music too."

"Masters of Intergalactic Space Rap"
Hydrofonix was a founding member of The Space Chimps — a Kansas City hip-hop crew blending live instruments with bars. Alongside Phrase, Eugene Komplete, and Jack Diddly, the four-member crew released Walkin' Upright — an album that proved hip-hop doesn't need to follow rules. A solo artist before, during, and after the group, Hydrofonix has always been building.
